More over at my blog. (Disclaimer: I'm rambly and a little rude. Don't say I didn't warn you :-D.)
Pattern Description:
Vogue Easy Options pattern features variations on a basic sheath: a boned or fitted bodice; straight, fuller, or mermaid flounced skirt; strap and sleeve options; and a lace overlay.
Everything's cut on a cross grain. Why? I don't know, but MY MOM TAUGHT ME TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS SO I DID.
Pattern Sizing:
AA -- 6 through 12, and D5 -- 12 through 20. I cut a 6 everywhere but the hips, which I graded to an 8. Thanks to a combination of gaining a few pounds and finally deciding to cut something smaller than an 8 all over, the fit was PERFECT.
In other words, size-wise, I'd cut whatever you usually cut with Vogues.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Sort of. I cooked up my own version out of a hybrid of a few views, lengthened the skirt and added gores/godets/whatever you call them to the bottom so I could walk, so it kind of became its own creature by the end.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't really follow them. At this point, I pretty much scan the direction sheet and if it tells me to slipstitch more than a tiny bit, I grumble and turn to the internet for tutorials because THERE'S GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY.
(When it comes to lining the bodice of a strapless dress, the better way is a clean-finish, all machine technique. Find it here.)
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Not much to dislike (besides the instructions about slipstitching). Mad love for a pattern with sizes smaller than 8.
Fabric Used:
Lace from Diana Fabrics, silk charmeuse underlining, and silk habotai lining. Leftover silk/rayon velvet for the extra flounces on the skirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Added the skirt stuff I mentioned above, and that's it.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm swimming in patterns right now, so I kind of doubt I'll return to this one for a while -- but I'd totally recommend it.
Conclusion:
Classic look. Not to tough. Loads of options. This one's a good one.
