|What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?|
First off, I love buying patterns from independent designers because the garments are more innovative, they take more care in the instructions, and I have often found that they are easier to sew. Despite what other reviewers have said, I (who rarely follows directions) followed everything and found it very easy to sew. The construction of everything from the sleeve to the collar kept things simple and easy to do.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Because this version was a test run for changing the pattern to a men's version, I tried to follow the directions exactly. However, I did change the length of the sleeve by eliminating the cuff. Pattern-maker Tasia has said she likes her sleeves long, and a lot of people have commented that they are VERY long, so I hemmed mine to fit just past my wrist and this is perfect for me.
I am not as pear-shaped as the pattern calls for, so I took it in by a few INCHES on either side to improve the fit.
I also recommend using a zipper with two zips on it, so you can open it from the bottom as well as the top for more wearing ease when you are sitting down.
For my next version I also plan to add outer in-seam pockets.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I made this up twice the first time, once for me and once for my man. I already plan on making another, perhaps with some more structural modifications for a different look. Love it!
I found that this pattern was great for its ease of sewing, and am really enjoying my coat. And check out my men's version, too!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
As I said above, unlike other sewists I have had not problem following these directions.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
The Minoru Jacket is a zip-front weekend jacket with a secret hood hidden inside the wide collar! If you prefer, skip the hood and let the dramatic collar be the focus. Flattering raglan sleeves are comfortable and easy-to-sew, and the elastic waistline creates a slim, curve-hugging silhouette.
No need to choose between having a hood OR a cute collar. The hood is tucked away in the wide, roomy collar, ready for when you need it, but stays hidden when you don’t! The collar looks great done up or left open. The jacket is fully lined, with interior patch pockets to stash your cards and keys safely and out of sight.
