Pattern Description:

East swing coat in two lengths. I made the shorter one.

Pattern Sizing:

Multi size. I made the XL

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Not really, but I made some changes intentionally.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

I didn't really follow them because of the changes I made. I looked at them. They seemed fine.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I found the fabric first and wanted something with few seams because of the fur. I love swing coats, just a quirk of mine.

One thing I didn't like was how long the sleeves were. It would have been hard to make a muslin because my fashion fabric is so thick, I don't think a muslin would have been helpful. I ended up shortening the sleeves 4". There is a big difference from the top of sleeve to bottom, so it had to be majorly regraded. When I looked at the envelope later, I realized the sleeve was supposed to be scrunched up. That was probably why the sleeve was so long!

Fabric Used:

I call it llama fabric. Long fur that was not much fun to work with. (My workroom was covered with fur when I finished!) It has a soft knit backing.

I used a brushed tricot to underline the llama fur. I felt it would likely sag without the underlining.

I used a polyester crepe for the lining.

I used a butter suede for the front band. Even though it wasn't called for, I interfaced the band.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

As I mentioned before, I took 4" off the sleeve length.

I cut the underlining the same and loosely basted it together and sewed the fur with the tricot underlining adhered to it.

I cut the lining the same as the outer pieces, but 1-1/4" shorter for hemming.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

I probably will, but not lined. And I think it will be cute with push-up sleeves.

Conclusion:

Once again, I have taken a simple pattern and made it difficult underlining and lining it. I just really liked the lines of the jacket for the llama fabric. I got compliments on it from strangers today. Guess that means it's a success!

After I finished, I saw the recommended fabric was fleece. Yes, that would be nice. But I do like my llama coat, even though I look like Yeti's sister

That is a fun jacket. I put it on my wish list. It does look like a mess to work with, but it turned out adorable.
