Pattern Description:
Very loose fitting jackets have stitched or serged seam and hem options. Included are Nancy Zieman's time saving tips.
Pattern Sizing: Y(XSmall-Small-Medium), I cut and XS in option B.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so, but I made some modifications: I cut it out in XS (in this pattern I'd fall into S/M) because other reviewers have commented on how loose fitting it is. I also added side seam pockets and added ribbed cuffs to lengthen the sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes! I love the 10, 20, 30 minute sewing increments that Nancy Zieman provides on this pattern. Even though I sewed it all in one sitting, it was really nice to know how much time I had to work with for each set of steps.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like how easy it was to sew up. I like the front ties. I like the fit. I think what I dislike most is the color and/or fabric I chose. It's a little too white, if that's possible. I almost feel like i'm wearing a knit lab coat.
Fabric Used:
Cotton jersey and knit ribbing from Joann.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added long cuffs to the sleeves in knit ribbing. I really love that I made these cuffs super long. They resemble sleeve ends of high end athletic wear, like lululemon.
I also added side seam pockets which are nice but I realize are hard to find because the seams are hard to find when the cardigan is tied.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would want to try to sew it again but maybe in a softer more drapey knit. I was hoping for a go-to cardigan for work but I think I chose the wrong fabric for the purpose, it works better for after yoga-wear. I have a few other cardigan patterns in my stash, so I might try those first before I go back to this one. I only recommend it with modifications (like cut a smaller size).
Conclusion:
I'm disappointed that it didn't end up being something I want to wear to work because that was its intended purpose. Just another lesson in fabric choice, I guess.
