Loose fitting drapey top with dolman sleeves, bias cuff and interesting pieced construction on lower front bodice.
Pattern Sizing:
6 (although I usually cut a 10 in Vogue)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, the styling is distinctive and whilst I made several fit adjustments the overall look was still very similar.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I think so, but didn't really use them. The bias sleeve cuff was a bit puzzling.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The slouchy style and interesting seamlines are perfect for a casual, comfortable yet stylish top.
Fabric Used:
Hanky mandarin linen from Tessuti. The linen has an enzyme wash finish that gives it a lovely weighty, drape.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I used the same pattern adjustments from the first top as a starting point but wanted something a bit more fitted for the linen version since the fabric is less drapey than the chiffon and the style lines are more visible in the plain colour. With this in mind I reduced the back width, raised the dart point and did an SBA (reduced shaping/curve on the mid-seam join between lower and upper bodice pieces).
Construction notes
There are so many wonderful and detailed reviews of this popular top, and its construction is fairly straight forward. Mine has French seaming throughout, a matching single fold bias finish on the neck edge and a baby rolled hem.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, its a super comfortable and versatile pattern. Dress it up in silk/chiffon or down in linen/cotton. Looks good with a skirt as well as pants or shorts.
Conclusion:
Fun to make and to wear Another top for SWAP 2013!
