Pattern Description:
Butterick says, "Flared dress, fitted at bust, below midknee or floor length has back zipper and tie ends extending from bodice back."
Pattern Sizing:
Misses 6-20.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
For the most part, considering the handful of alterations I made.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the way the sash crosses in the front and ties in the back. This allows for a very nice cinch at the waist, which is flattering.
Fabric Used:
Polyester crepe back satin from Hancock Fabrics. It was a beautiful fabric, but I think it was a little heavy for this dress. There is so much fabric in the skirt that the waistline seam sags a little on the hanger.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
- lowered neckline
- lengthened sashes
- used invisible zipper
- added bust darts
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I probably won't sew it again anytime soon. I might consider sewing this in the shorter length in a lightweight cotton for a cute, retro summer dress someday.
Conclusion:
This was my first attempt using a retro/vintage reiussue pattern, my first time sewing formalwear, and my first time sewing with a slippery fabric like satin. Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out, and I definitely recommend the pattern.
