Pattern Description:
Close-fitting pullover top has neck and sleeve variations, side slits and topstitched hems.
Pattern Sizing:
6-8-10-12

I chose the 12 based on my upper bust measurement.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were fairly clear. The only hitch was with the v-neck portion of the instructions. For other beginners, here's how I did the pattern.

The pattern is marked with having a 3/8 inch seam at the neckline but the pattern instructions indicate a 5/8 inch neckline. I chose to follow the 3/8 instruction based on the width of the neck banding--otherwise it would be more like neck piping. To do this, you need to be sure to reinforce and clip the center front of the top at a 3/8 line and NOT the 5/8 line on the pattern.

Once you are ready to insert the neck banding, be aware that illustration shows the neck banding flipped AFTER it has been sewn. That is why the raw edges are pointed toward the floor. I pinned mine with band inside the the neckline, matching the v-point, notches and CB, and sewed a 3/8 inch seam and then again a scant 1/4 inch in the seam allowance. If you want, you can reinforce the v-point with a bit of hand-stitched reinforcement.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved the modest gathering at the bust line. It's a great way to allow for a well-fitting knit top for a larger bust without the dreaded dart.

Be aware that the fit is rather snug in the torso. You may wish to size/grade up or plan to wear shapewear if you have a roll you'd like to minimize.
Fabric Used:
I used three different rayon knit blends for my tops--a french terry red, a semi-sheer white, and a cute black and white stripe. The first two fabrics were purchased from Joann and the second from Hobby Lobby. They have enough stretch but were thinner, more like layering tops than squishy interlock. In retrospect, given the snug fit and minimal ease, a less drapey and thicker knit would have been better. Next time I'd certainly spend a bit more for a better quality of fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
RED TOP: Here I used the pattern as originally drafted. I sewed the side seams and bypassed the vented side to add a little more length to the top. I finished the seams with my sm's overcast stitch to encase the terry backing.

WHITE TOP: I chose to add .75 inches in length at the bust and then added it to the gathered seam section to create a little more room in the bust. I also added a little more room on the side seams so the torso wasn't quite so snug. I did a seam finishing as described in the pattern: making a second line of stitching 1/4 inch into the seam allowance and trimming close to second stitching.

STRIPE TOP: To make cutting the striped fabric accurately, I traced full patterns of the front and back pieces. Again I used the alterations from the pattern for the white top to accomodate my bust. I worked to get the bottoms of the front and back on the same stripe to make them match at the side seams. The gathered portion obviously won't match but it is sufficiently under the arm that it isn't visible. The gathered fullness at the bust actually prevents the unsightly stripe stretch across the full bust. Very flattering, I think. I did not have vents on the sides of this top. I finished the seams with an overcast stitch again. I also opted to add some top stitching around the neckline to add a little interest.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes! I plan to add this to my collection as a TNT pattern. In the future I'd like to try drafting a scoop neck top rather than the crew and try out the sleeveless top. I LOVE the discreetly gathered bust line.

Conclusion:
I sewed these tops to participate in the 2013 One Pattern Many Looks contest. While the "many" looks of this entry are rather subtle, I certainly gained a lot of confidence by making small changes and pattern alterations.
