| This was a class project and my first quilt. Yes, my first quilt. I was new to quilting. I did not even own a ruler for cutting the fabric strips. I started learning from the very beginning. I do not know if this quilt has a name or if it is one made up by my teacher to teach many different squares for a class. The center is a medallion. There are rail fence squares, 4 and 9 patch squares, print squares, half square triangles, quarter square triangles, half-quarter triangles, and flying geese. I turned the geese into diamonds for interest. This quilt required a lot of homework each week. I learned to use my sewing machine really well in those 9 weeks.
It came out beautiful. I just love the tropical flowers in it. It gives it life. It is bright and lively.
The fabrics are all quilting cottons, except for the hot pink batik. The cottons are from Marti Mitchell. The tropical flowers are from Wilmington Prints. The finished quilt is 62 x 80 inches. It is larger than I would have thought to make for a first project.
Since then, I made a second quilt for my husband in the colors he likes. I already reviewed it. It is a wall hanging size of 42 x 42 inches. I have started cutting a third quilt which will end up being 40 x 49 inches. I was told when I took my class that quilting is addictive and I believe it. There is so much fabric to tempt me in the stores and online, not to mention so many choices of patterns. One thing I want to do is explore different blocks. Some are simple and others more complex. Quilting is fun and can be easy or challenging. It all depends on what you want to do and how you do it.

This is gorgeous! It made me "Think Spring" on an otherwise gloomy and chilly winter day.

Great job, girl! Love your colors. I think most people would probably call it a sampler quilt. I remember your posts about how frustrated you got doing this, but, you learned so much. Keep on Quilting! :-)
