Pattern Description:
Fully lined coat or jacket with sleeve and collar variations
Pattern Sizing:
I made my usual 10
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yep
Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were. I didn't follow them to the letter, but if I had they would have been easy for a beginner to follow.
Fabric Used:
Really beautiful cream and teal plaid flannel for the coat and cream charmeuse for the lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I lenghtened the torso by an inch and shortened the length by 2. I also cut all of my decorative pieces, back yoke, front band and waist band on the bias mostly because I like the way that looks. Plus I hate it when plaids don't match and you will never get the plaid of the front band to match the body of the coat all the way down because of the waist-band.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I probably wouldn't just because it's so distinctive. That being said, it's such a classic shape that it will be in your closet forever.
Conclusion:
I absolutely love this coat, I've worn it twice and both times strangers have stopped me asking where I bought it. That's always the best compliment to anything I make. There a LOT of pieces to this one, but it's worth it. If you're going to make this out of anything with a pattern you are trying to match (or you're going to cut anything on the bias), you will definitely need at least an extra yard of fabric.

AmberSage said... I don't remember exactly how much fabric I used, but I think I used about a quarter yard more than what the pattern suggested. I find PR patterns make you buy about a half yard extra on average. I generally buy a half yard short, unless I have a plaid or directional pattern on the fabric, and just hope I bought enough. 3/17/13 6:04 PM
