Double breasted jacket with back peplum detail Pattern Sizing:
34-42, I made a 38, my usual BurdaStyle size and didn't need to make any fit adjustments Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
They weren't bad for Burda, although I think if you have put together a jacket before that would definitely help. The whole collar is assembled separately and sandwiched between the jacket and facing pieces, which makes it easy to get a good finish but you need to grade that finished seam carefully as it ends up pretty bulky. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved the little details on the pattern - the front yoke, 3 tucks in each sleeve and of course the back belt and peplum.
I disliked that the pattern only comes with a partial lining - I drafted a full lining using the original pieces and added an ease pleat in the back. Fabric Used:
A superfine navy wool suiting Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
As mentioned above I added a full lining (except for the peplum which I decided to underline at the beginning). The original pattern was designed for felted wool leaving the outer edges unfinished, I just added seam allowances and sewed the pieces together as normal. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I think this is a one time sew because of all the unique details, but I do recommend it especially if you are a fan of jackets with lots of detailing.
More photos over on my blog Conclusion:
A classic jacket with a bit of a twist, I'd recommend adding in a lining though.
