Pattern Description: Apron style costume for girls

Pattern Sizing: S/M/L

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, it took a little fiddling with for me to understand how the belt attached on the lining, but once I thought it through it made sense.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Aprons are such a fun way to make a dress up outfit because it doesn't have to fit exactly right and they can easily wear it over regular clothes for play. No difficult button or zipper closures either. The inside is finished very nicely, if you wanted you could probably almost modify this to be a reversible apron and get two costumes out of one! (I have been thinking about trying this...)

Fabric Used: for Cinderella I used cheap costume satin, for Mary Poppins I used quilting cotton for the white, with nice thick satin for the red belt (the higher quality satin is definitely easier to work with). The satin definitely frays so I actually pinked the edges on my second time around.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I didn't make it quite so frilly with the tulle over skirt and ruffles, but kept it a little simpler. I changed the bodice design a little too to add the contrasting v center. I also did a simple ribbon hem ala the oliver and s lazy days skirt method.
For the mary poppins one, I modified the belt and skirt shape to give the princess waist. (to do this I actually traced the shape of the the bodice and skirt from Simplicity 2463 onto the belt and skirt of the apron pattern.) I also added that lacey bib for mary "jolly holiday" style.

I also did french seams to give it a very clean finish on the inside.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? yes. It's got some great potential for modifying to fit any costume design ideas.

Conclusion: Good basic pattern to have for simple costume ideas. It took me a few hours to work through the first one, but the second came together in a snap once i knew what I was doing.
