Pattern Description: Fitted dress, self lined bodice, seam detail, side front pockets, invisible back zipper and vent.
Thank you to reviewer trinicity whose previous review notes the dress neckline to be LOW. A second look at the tissue shows the bottom of the V to be in line with the apex of the bust. Gonna have to change that.
Pattern Sizing: Misses evens 6-22
Were the instructions easy to follow? I will be using this pattern to teach a student to sew. I already see places where the instructions are a little lacking: steps 3 and 6 have the bodice clipped to lay flat, but the seam should also be graded to prevent bulk.
Step 10 has you understitch the lining section and then in the next step you open out the layers and stitch side seams in one continuous seam. Not if you understitched all the way to the edges as depicted in the previous instruction. Little details like that are the difference between 'easy' beginner patterns and advanced, I think- how about 'Understitch armholes beginning and ending 1 inch from side seam raw edge of garment. Understitch neck edge beginning and ending 1 inch from center back raw edge of garment'?
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Dislikes: If I have to buy lining fabric for the pockets, why isn't it used on the bodice? The creative design suggestions elevate this pattern from 'easy' to 'moderate'. It would take alternate finishing methods to properly achieve them.
And why wouldn't they give the yardages for making the side circles in the contrast- this pattern call out for color blocking.
More notes after we begin the process... Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Thank you for the heads up on the apex/neckline V being in line. I am thinking of cutting this one out for myself this afternoon. Just wondering if your student finished this dress and how she liked it.
