|So this isn't really a dress I made - more like a reconstruction. I bought this dress on a $5 rack because the zipper was broken (love those!!!). It was a size too small for me and I couldn't ever get the back pieces to meet. I bought it anyway because I loved the dress when it first came on the rack and this was my chance to own it.|
I thought about all the different ways I could add in a piece etc etc and then I had a brainwave!!!
The skirt was pleated so I knew there was a heap of extra fabric there that I could play with. It is also lined. So I undid the skirt from the bodice, let out all the pleats and cut two strips from either side of the skirt. With these I put in another panel in the bodice and added an extra piece at the waist because the original dress was too high waisted for me. Then I just repleated the dress my own way and reattached it.
I added a strip of red to the bottom because the dress was a little too short for me and because I did this, I felt that it needed the same fabric elsewhere so I added little collar pieces to the top of the bodice.
I removed the skirt lining and used fabric from this to add as a panel to the bodice lining just as I had done to the bodice front in the main fabric. The skirt didn't really need lining because the fabric is heavy enough not to be see through. I'm so proud of this because my brain would never have even considered doing something like this before.
My $5 purchase ended up costing $15 all up with extra fabric and a zipper. Original price of the dress was $88 so I made a great saving and created my own unique piece t'boot!
