| Pattern Description: An elegant dress with a low scooped back, princess seamed, fully lined bodice, box pleated tulip skirt and exposed zipper at centre back. There are three sleeve variations and the bodice is designed with very little ease to enhance the waist.
Pattern Sizing: In UK sizes 6-20 and US sizes 2-16. I made a US 8 after making a bodice muslin in a 6 and realized they weren't kidding hen they said it had very little ease.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty much
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yep, lots of helpful illustrations but overall the design isn't too complicated so for the most part I didn't use them.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the scoop neck and princess seams and the tulip shaped skirt. I liked that the dress has every so slightly dropped shoulders, kind of a modern touch.
Fabric Used: A stiff black and white cotton and black sateen cotton for the sides. The pattern calls for stiffer fabric to keep those lovely skirt pleats nice and crisp.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a facing for the neckline rather than lining the bodice, just a personal preference. I also chopped off like 7" from the bottom of the skirt, mostly because I didn't have enough fabric, but even so next time I'd probably cut it even shorter. I'm 5'6" if that gives you an idea of how long the skirt was.
I also fiddled with the sleeve cap a bit, it seemed like it was too wide on my upper arm, next time I might re-draft the sleeve cap.
Other than that I didn't do any changes for fit.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I'd like to try another version and maybe blend By Hand London's Charlotte Skirt with this dress bodice and make a pencil skirt version.
Conclusion: I really like this dress style and I'm looking forward to what this new company comes up with next! |
