    Pattern Description:

This is from Lutterloh book 1979. I wanted to make some straight legged pants with splits to go with a brocade jacket I was making. I thought these looked like what I needed. I had been wanting to try my Lutterloh system, so I thought this would be as good a time as any.

    Pattern Sizing:

Lutterloh uses miniatures that you enlarge to your largest body measurement. I knew I would have to make some adjustments. More on that later.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

    More or less

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Lutterloh assumes you know the basics of sewing. There really are no instructions except general sewing instructions before the patterns.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I liked the finished product, even though it was not easy to achieve.

    Fabric Used:

I had this raw silk, I think it's shantung. It turned out to be just enough to make the pants and trim the jacket.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

Once I drafted the pattern , added seam allowances and made it up to the point of adding waistband, I tried them on. Really bad...really small. Not sure what happened in the drafting process. I had to add wedges on the sides, tapering to a point. The hips were about 5" too small and the waist was 4". The wedge was not easy, as the pants have inset pockets. I think the type fabric it is helped disguise the wedge. Besides, I knew I would be wearing a long top and the top of the pants wouldn't be seen.

I added contrasting rounded bands at the hem. I think they turned out well, in spite of all the aggravation.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

I needed these for a specific function (I'm going to a Chinese New year celebration) so probably won't have need for anything like this again.

    Conclusion:

I am going to try my Lutterloh one more time. I hope it will work because I really like the concept. This one was more work than I had planned

Nice save with a wedge. You made it look like a design element. Your pants came out very nice!
