Pattern Description:
semi-fitted skirt that sits slightly below the natural waist and works up well in a variety of fabrics, from denim to wool to corduroy and many fabrics in-between. Skirt features a fly front and button closure as well as a yoke at the back. View B has a hem band for a slightly longer version.
Pattern Sizing: 0-18. I made a size 6 based on my measurements. I needed a bit more room in the hips, and a little less in the waist.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I think so. I previously reviewed this pattern here. The one thing I forgot to mention last time is that I used a different method to insert the fly front zipper than the one given in the pattern. I think the directions are clear, but I just wasn't happy with the way it turned out. My favorite method is from a book by Anna Zapp called The Zapp Method of Couture Sewing, where the fly is installed flat before sewing any part of the center seam. I always get good results with this method.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the structured look of the skirt and the hem band option.
Fabric Used: Last time I used a denim fabric and was very happy with the outcome. This time I chose a lighter-weight wool from my stash, and while it's ok, I do like my heavier-weight denim version the best. I lined this wool version because it did need a lining. If I were choosing a wool (not from my stash) I would have picked a wool with a little more weight to it.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: As with my other skirt, I trimmed some length off the skirt portion before adding the hem band to result in a length somewhere between View A and B.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I may sew this again in the summer, and I do recommend it.
Conclusion: This is a great basic skirt. The pattern is rated intermediate, and I think that's accurate. There are several pieces to the pockets and also a yoke and overall the shaping is subtle so you need to keep an eye on matching up the pieces in the right way! I don't see why a beginner couldn't do it if you take your time. Every project is a learning experience, right?

I know what you mean about practical pieces but they sure get a lot of use and your skirt is darling styled with the crème sweater and denim.

You're right, and it does feel good to wear my things instead of having them stay in the closet...even if they are practical...
