| Pattern Description:
An empire-waist dress or tunic with fitted bodice. I made the tunic.
From the pattern maker: "This sweet and flattering dress features a cut-out scoop neckline, an above-the-knee hemline, pockets, and shirring in the back for an easy, comfortable fit. No zippers or closures are needed, making it a wonderful project for the intermediate sewist! The pattern can be made without sleeves, with a basic scoop neckline, as a tunic, or with a longer skirt to achieve a large number of different looks. You’ll be thrilled with all of the variations you can create with this fantastic pattern!"
Pattern Sizing:
The sizes were good.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were great. This was a downloadable pattern and was great to work with. The background grid made it easy to put together and each size was printed in a different colour.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This is a great pattern but was difficult to fit to my figure. The bodice is very fitted and it needs to be carefully adjusted to avoid a maternity look. The pattern maker recommends making a muslin before starting and I strongly agree. I needed to do a FBA and adjust the darts. In order to get a good fit I made 5 muslins.
The pattern has a cut-out dart in the bodice. But I would strongly recommend not cutting it out but simply stitch it, then trim afterward. Otherwise it can be very difficult to adjust the fit.
After the muslin stage, it came together quickly.
The shirring with elastic thread was very easy and the end result is really nice.
Fabric Used:
I used quilting cotton and I think this was a poor choice. It's a bit stiff. Something with better drape would make a better garment, especially with sleeves.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made a FBA and adjusted the darts in the bodice.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would sew this again in a fabric with better drape and would probably make the dress.
Conclusion:
Difficult to fit, at least on me, but a very nice pattern. |
