| Pattern Description:
The Minoru Jacket is a zip-front weekend jacket with a secret hood hidden inside the wide collar! If you prefer, skip the hood and let the dramatic collar be the focus. Flattering raglan sleeves are comfortable and easy-to-sew, and the elastic waistline creates a slim, curve-hugging silhouette.
No need to choose between having a hood OR a cute collar. The hood is tucked away in the wide, roomy collar, ready for when you need it, but stays hidden when you don’t! The collar looks great done up or left open. The jacket is fully lined, with interior patch pockets to stash your cards and keys safely and out of sight.
Practical and pretty!
Pattern Sizing:
Sizes: 0-16 (all sizes are included in one pattern!) I made mine in a size 12 but graded the hips down to a 4.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
For the most part, yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I think they were but I was mostly following the sew-along pages on the sewaholic website and those were very detailed.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the optional hood, the elastic waist, the high collar and especially the slim-fit.
I only dislike that there are no front pockets on the original pattern, but they are very easy to add.
Fabric Used:
Polyester suiting for the main fabric. Polyester satin for the lining. Sweatshirt fleece for the front pocket lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made up the pattern in a size 12 but graded down to 4 at the hips because I'm not pear shaped. I raised the waist 1". For the inner pockets, I didn't add velcro. But I added front welt pockets because I love and need pockets on a jacket. I made an embroidery floss bracelet for the hanging loop and I also lined the hood in my lining fabric. I added a placket behind the zipper so that the metal zipper wouldn't touch my face.
I made a huge mistake during the construction and put in one of the collar pieces upside-down and when I ripped it out and put it back in, because I had already serged the seams, the piece was smaller, so I had to adjust the all the pieces to fit. This made the length shorter and the collar more narrow as well.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I definitely recommended this pattern to others. So many people have made it that there are so many great ideas and resources on other blogs to piggy-back off of.
I might make it again one day. I don't need too many jackets as it is, so if I ever make it again, it would be to maybe make it in a heavy wool so that I can use it when I visit home in Canada.
Conclusion:
This was my biggest yet most successful project yet. The pattern is amazing and the options to personalize it are endless. If this is your style, I think everyone should give it a go!

Wonderful jacket! I really like the fabric you chose and the fleece-lined welt pockets you added.

Your jacket is lovely! Your saves with the collar and welt pockets look fantastic. You have some lovely pictures on your blog and you will get many more hits and more feedback here on PR if you post pictures. Lovely work, and I agree about your life lessons taught by this project.

What a great job you did on your lovely jacket. Fabulous idea with those fleece lined pockets. That's one to borrow for sure. I agree with becca a that pictures help but please don't link your blog to your top picture. Give us the choice whether to visit you or not. I did and I really enjoyed reading what you had to say. Thanks for the review.
