Pattern Description: Misses' knee length shift dress has wide round neckline with or without bias-cut stand collar and can be made sleeveless or with 3/4, short or pleated sleeves. New Look sewing pattern.
Pattern Sizing: 8-18, I made a 10, view B
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Simple. Not a whole lot to mess up
Fabric Used: Wool bouclé from Jay's Fabric Center in St Petersburg Florida. We were there three years ago and I bought this with the big idea to do a Chanel-style jacket. This was something like $100 a yard, marked down to $50, then put on the discount table. I think I ended up buying 2 yards at maybe $30/yd.
Bemberg rayon for the lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Eliminated the facings and did a bias bound neckline. Added a lining.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would sew this again for next winter since I find I'm wearing it so much.
Conclusion: I changed my mind about the jacket and decided I needed a simple, black bouclé dress for this winter. I didn't want anything fancy, just something that I could either dress up or down easily. Plus, this fabric is so nice I wanted to do a simple pattern with minimal potential for screw-ups.
I love this dress and have gotten quite a bit of wear out of it this winter. I usually wear it with a white shirt underneath, sometimes with pearls and a dusty pink silk tie/bow. This was definitely worth the expense of the fabric.
Thanks for sharing. Your dress is gorgeous made up in that boucle.
