|Pattern Description: |
This is a pullover shirtdress with options for a gathered drawstring low waist.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I think so, but I made modifications.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, this was a simple pattern with easy instructions. Great for someone who is dipping their toe into a collar and sleeve placket.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love, love, love the style and ease of this dress.
I did not, did not, did not love the ginormous tent-like ease of the pattern.
This is where my trouble begins. There was not one bit of joy in making this dress because of the fabric. I chose a polyester charmeuse (maybe) silky print from Joann's. The stuff was a stinker to work with. It did not hold a press well, was challenging on my machine and serger. The stuff is like kevlar. But, let's make lemonade out of kevlar (lemons!) Fabric which is difficult to crisply press does not wrinkle...this is the very thing that makes this one of my best dresses ever!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut a 16, and did about a 1 1/2" FBA (no dart). I took in quite a bit of the tent from the underarm down to the hem ( gradually taking out about 2 1/2" on each side.) I did not use the sleeve tabs. I added 2 inches to the length. This dress would be short as is...especially belted, and with all that ease at the hem, you would be a distraction on a windy day!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Oh, I plan to. I do love this dress. I think it could work up nicely in a variety of fabrics to give it a completely different look for different seasons and occasions. Conclusion:
Make this dress. Not sure how much more versatile a dress pattern could be!
