I made this bag based on a designer bag I saw in a store in London. Its quite a large sized handbag, with interior pockets designed to suit the things I need to be able to reach easily.
The outside fabric is a brocade in black, bronze, brown and old gold, which changes appearance according to the light. The inside fabric is a figured satin, quite a heavy weight.
The main pieces were all strengthened with a fusible woven interfacing, and the bottom has a piece of thin foam backed with polythene to further reinforce it.
The front and back are fastened together with a magnetic catch, which is attached to the interfacing pieces.
The bag pattern has four main pieces, the front and back are identical, the two sides are the same, there's a base piece and a handle piece. I drafted facings and lining pieces as well, and tested the shape in an old sheet before tidying up the draft and cutting out.
You can see a photo of the main pattern pieces on my blog post.
All of the pieces are curved and if I make this again I will use some more balance marks to make assembly easier.
Inside I have pockets and a couple of chains for keys.
I'm very happy with how this turned out, its a useful size and an interesting shape. |
Really nice and love all the inside pockets.
