| Pattern Description: Misses' Tracy Reese dress: Pullover, close-fitting, lined dress has draped sides and narrow hem.
Pattern Sizing: 6-14, I cut a 6.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so I tried to look as bored as I could to do the "Vogue" pose. It took much effort to stop laughing long enough to get that photo taken!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very good. This was my first time sewing a dress with a lining, so I had to re-read some parts and follow very carefully. Though I'm sure most sewers would just breeze through them!
I hemmed the lining wrong, but that was me just not paying enough attention! I hemmed it towards the outside instead of the inside. Since my print is so busy though, I don't think anyone will be able to notice the imprint of the lining hem (plus I didn't want to pick out all those stitches!)
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the ruching along the sides! The photo on the envelope shows it like it is, this is a *very* tight dress! Puts me in mind of Shania Twain's "I feel like a woman" ;)
Other reviewers have stated that this pattern runs big, so I cut my lining fabric first since it has the finished measurements printed on the pattern pieces. I had cut an 8, but I actually found that I needed to size down to a 6. I just took in the sides and shoulder seam slightly, and cut my fashion fabric in a 6.
Fabric Used: Polyester-Spandex. I picked it up at my local Fabricville store with this dress in mind. The lining I found in the discount section of the store for $2 a metre! I think it might be a swimsuit lining of some sort.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I shortened the dress by 5 inches, the lining by 4 inches, and made the sleeves 3/4 length. I'm a petite 5ft 2", so I figured it would look better above the knee.
I removed the sleeve cap ease before setting in the sleeve, and hemmed it before stitching the arm seam. I find it scratches a bit, so next project I'll probably go back to hemming the sleeve afterwards.
**I must add that this is my first project using the "straight stretch-stitch" on my machine. I was googleing how to sew cotton-lycra (always gives me grief) and it brought me to a link showing that stitch. I didn't know it existed! I just love google!
Added Feb 11***I forgot to mention, for the gathering, I sewed basting stitches on the front and back piece *together* not separately as the pattern instructs. I thought it would be easier to do it twice (one on each side seam) than four different times (all separate).
Anyone else do this? Or is it more accurate and/easy to do them separately?
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely! I would love this dress in a dressy-casual fabric for summer. I just love mimig's flowery version
Conclusion: This dress is hot! At least my husband (also my photographer) thinks so ;)
PS, at one point, I almost scrapped this dress because I didn't think it would turn out like I hoped (this was before top-stitching the ruching part). My oh-so-encouraging husband persuaded me to finish it. I'm glad I did! It turned out better than I thought.

Glad to see you finished your dress - it's fabulous! Sorry to hear sewing the sleeve hem first caused you grief. I coverstitch so this is much easier for me but didn't intend to mislead you in my review. You did a great job with this and so glad you didn't abandon this. I also LOVE your fabric!

Your dress looks great on you! I just finished the same dress and had to laugh as I read how much you shortened and cut down the dress...I am tall so I added 1" to the bodice and 3" to the length to get the dress to hit me just below my kneecap! But I agree, this dress is very flattering for all body types and sizes and is quite easy to sew up.
