Pattern Description:
It's a "jacket"! LOL A casual open jacket with wide curved band all around.
Pattern Sizing:
36-44
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were easy to follow, but I didn't follow them to the letter.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the casual look of this jacket and the bands provided the perfect way to bring to life my idea of how to use the wool plaid fabric.
Fabric Used:
wool plaid coating thrifted for $7.99!!!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made a few alterations:
1. I completely lined the jacket, although it is actually an unlined jacket. This was simple to do: cut the fronts, back and sleeves from the kasha lining.
2. Shorten the sleeves. These sleeves are long, even in the photos that Burda has. See here. I didn't want the sleeves excessively long, so I shortened them by about 4 cm.
3. I cut long bias strips 3.25 inches (10.5 cm) wide instead of the curved bands.
4. I sandwiched the jacket itself between the bands, instead of sewing the bands in between the jacket and the lining. Here's a closeup. I left the edges unfinished. I did not interface the bands.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would highly recommend this very simple casual jacket pattern. It was easy to cut, fit and sew, even with the extra work entailed by matching plaid bias bands! I don't think I need another jacket like this in my wardrobe, so I'll not be sewing another.
Conclusion:
Great simple pattern for lots of casual wear and room to play with fabric ideas.
