Pattern Description:
A sewing pattern to make a semi-fitted, fully lined coat. The Abbey Coat features princess seams, 3/4 sleeves, and a peter pan collar. View A is made with the flounce and view B is made with out the flounce.
Pattern Sizing:
2-18. I cut a size 10 based on my sizes and it's a tad big, which I wanted so that I could fit it over sweaters and heavier tops.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Very similar since I used a cream wool and the view with the bottom flounce.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
VERY easy to follow. The coat looked so impressive on the pattern front that I was nervous about making it but the instructions were wonderful, easy to follow and it came together really nicely. I made a few mistakes that were my own fault because I occasionally decided to not listen to the pattern...oops! Sometimes I get ahead of myself!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really like the collar and the bottom flounce. It is so cute and interesting. I like the idea of the 3/4 sleeve but I don't think it is very practical for winters in Boston. I wish it came with a full sleeve option. Luckily the colors for my coat are probably more suited to a spring coat anyway. I love the flounce design but it's hard to sit on without getting wrinkled
Fabric Used:
Cream wool coating and a heavier polyester lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I would recommend it and sew it again. I want to make the view without the flounce for a fall coat (a la the black coat on the pattern).
Conclusion:
Really great, concise pattern. It was my first Jamie Christina pattern and based on the results, I want to try some more! Blogged about here.
