| Pattern Description: Flamingo Toes 4 Hour Slouchy Summer Hobo is a free download from Flamingo Toes' website for a large hobo beach purse. I have had the pattern for awhile and really like the hobo style. Pattern Sizing: Pattern is one size only, but she does explain how you could change the size or draw your own. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Shape-wise, yes mine resembles the finished picture on the site, but that's where the similarity ends. The original pattern was too large for what I wanted to do, so I opted to free-hand reduce it. I also made several other design additions. Were the instructions easy to follow? I read the instructions after I had sewn mine. The directions on her site are simple to follow with plenty of pictures to help with construction if you need them. I felt confident enough to begin work without them. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really love the hobo shape bags, but they usually are one big open bag and everything falls to the bottom. So I fixed that I hope! Fabric Used: When my Joann's moved, I picked up a beautiful cranberry upholstery velour, a pink/cranberry/sage/cream floral upholstery cotton, and a nice pale green rayon for lining. I also bought the upholstery velour in olive then too. I didn't cut a strap or have one when I started, but a trip to Goodwill netted me a real leather braided belt. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: First, because the size was so large, I reduced the size quite a bit. Then I designed a flap with zip pocket on the inside. For the lining I designed a pocket on one side and a zipper pocket on the other. I used selvages from the velour for interior trim, created fringe trim from some of the lining and an antique mother-of-pearl button for my closure. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This pattern could be made in many sizes and many fabrics with each one looking different. The styling is classic hobo and seldom goes far out of style. Add a well drafted download and good instructions for a win. Conclusion: This is only the second purse I've ever made. I was already considering this and decided the contest would help me finally get this from print-out to actual purse. I have ideas already for changes for another one with some other trim options. I can already see a couple other ideas for artistic expression. |

Very cute. It is so rewarding, isn't it, to make your own purse? Like you I used the contest to spur me on to get it done! Well done.

That looks like a fun bag. I especially like the fringe.

Thank you. There is nothing like being able to say you made it yourself. I have since added an eyelet and a keyring to one side that allows me to clip my keys to my purse.
