|Pattern Description: |
This large bag, copied from an existing bag, has double over-the-shoulder straps, a zipper top closure, and lining with small zippered pocket. It's fully interfaced for extra strength and stability. It's big enough to carry everything you might need for a day of writing at the library - laptop, books, snacks, water, notepad, pens, and wallet (with library card) and more.
The pattern is one size - BIG!!!
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It's a bit wilder looking than the original - animal skin patterned synthetic instead of real leather.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
LOL, what instructions! However, I can say that measuring a leathur bag can be challenge, given the give in leather. I had to use some math skills to make the pieces end up the right size to fit together. Measurements tended to be best 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 5.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I knew I liked the bag ahead of time since I copies it. I like it's size and proportions for carrying my office in a bag. While I like the inset zipper placket on top, it was the most challenging part of bag to sew. zipper top
The outside is an animal print shiny synthic! It's fairly thing and flexible to I fully interfaced it with a medium weight interfacing. I couldn't use fusable because the heat would destroy the shiny finish on the fabric. I used a spray adhesive and non-fusable interfacing. Lining is a synthetic lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I copied it as closely as I could.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I can see me reusing this pattern since creating the pattern was a project in itself. However, certain details like rounded corners, inset zipper, and the type of material make it a challenging project for a simple home sewing machine.
I love my bag. It was worth the hassles with broken thread and needles and ackward sewing. My first bag and first time sewing with vinyl so it feels like an accomplishment.
