This purse was based off a Stella McCartney design as seen here for $1165 at Neiman Marcus: The original is made out of faux/polyurethane "leather" (McCartney is against leather). I made mine out of black lambskin purchased on ebay and silver aluminum chains. I also added a funky lining instead of the designer plain one - I like fun linings, even if it means making it harder to see what is in my purse!
The pattern was self drafted, although it wasn't difficult since it is a basic tote shape. The difficult part was adding the inside pocket without sewing it shut - or maybe that kind of thing is just difficult for me to figure out. I interfaced both the lambskin and the lining. The lambskin seemed a bit stretchy, so I was worried about it distorting over time. The purse closes with a magnetic snap. The tedious part was punching the holes for the lacing and lacing all the leather around the top of the bag. It can be carried as a tote, or I made a detachable chain shoulder strap that clips on so it can be carried folded over. |
Wow that is gorgeous.

Super cool! I love satchels for their double handles. This one is a neat twist on that idea! I'd pick up the black one, as it was a mere $1095 LOL!

Love this purse! More fabulous than the original because it's leather.

Very interesting and different. I like the chain/leather pairing.

Beautiful purse. Love the whip stitch technique and the chains. And love lambskin -- oh, and you saved over a thousand dollars - that purse needs a night out with the savings! :)
