I was a bit weary of trying this pattern out, as better sewists than I have made this and found it wanting!
Pattern Description: Top and Dress have bust darts, a shaped front neck insert and back neckband, and edge-to-edge closure. Dress features self belt and a side slit skirt, and optional front & back darts (not shown in sketch). Either style can be collarless, or have a narrow Mandarin collar. Choose from puffed cap sleeves or a sleeveless look for your perfect style.
Pattern Sizing: Sz 6 - 26. I made a straight size 16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think it was a reasonable likeness.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I found the instructions to be reasonably clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really liked the style with the front inset.
I like that this has the potential to be dressy or casual depending on the fabric used.
Not a dislike, but a note - as previous reviewers have noted, the pattern as drafted is not quite an accurate reflection of the pattern drawing, but was very easily remedied by extending the bust dart.
Fabric Used: As this is a trial run of the pattern, a poly/cotton check shirting.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only change I made was to extend the bust darts by 1 1/2" to meet the inset seam. Dart meeting the inset - 'scuse the boob close-up! Full top view
Next time;
- I would bring the dart extension back to nearer 1", as it was a bit too long and I think I can get a neater finish on my inset corners.
- I would lengthen it slightly, maybe 1 1/2", as I really like the length it is in the photo, which is still unhemmed.
- I would sew the front slit about 3" higher, so I can wear it without a singlet top underneath.
IF I was planning to use a directional print fabric, I might consider changing the main front piece to two pieces, but otherwise lengthening the dart got me the look of the pattern picture.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I am definitely going to sew this again, now that I know the fit is really good.
Conclusion: Despite my trepidation based on previous reviews, I am really pleased with the outcome. My first taste of HotPatterns has been a success!

Congratulations on a great top! I had also heard about difficulties with this pattern. I'm glad you made it work. Maybe I'll reconsider.
