Pattern Description: A sleeveless dress with solid color neckband, belt and underskirt.
Pattern Sizing: 5 - 10. I was making this pattern for a 6 year old and the size 6 was perfect.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes I guess so.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Actually I had to really sit down and read these - not because I don't know how to put the pieces together, but I'm not used to the way the information is presented. For example, some information that I expect to see on the instructions were actually on the pattern pieces so I was constantly having to open up the tissue paper which was very annoying. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like how many looks you can achieve with this particular pattern. I obviously was not a fan of the way the information was organised.
Fabric Used: A poly cotton and some kind of crinkled cotton which reminds me of cheesecloth.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I completely lined the bodice. Initially I used the main fabric to do this but it made the bodice come out in a candy pink where the skirt had a blue hue to it. It really looked wrong. I didn't want to line the bodice in the textured fabric because I felt it might be a little scratchy to wear. Instead I completely lined the bodice in a fabric the same colour as the underskirt and now both have the blue hue to them. It actually toned down the brightness of the main fabric.
I couldn't decide if I liked it better with or without the belt so I made it up anyway and the wearer can decide what she wants to do. I ended up making it a little thinner than the pattern piece. Click Here to see the dress without the belt.
I made the dress alot longer as this is what the little girl wanted. The style suits her very well. I made a little matching bolero jacket using the bodice pattern and just self -drafting the line of the jacket which can be worn when a little extra coverage is needed from the sun etc. Here is the little bolero jacket.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I did actually. I am about to write a review on it too.
Conclusion: A great little pattern for this age group - very versatile and the looks you could create are endless. A really pretty dress that is perfect for the little girl it was made for.
