Pattern Description:
MISSES’ WRAP DRESS: Three pattern pieces, darted in front and back, with back waist and shoulder seams. Back wraps around to the front for a sheath-and-overskirt look. A: contrast back and skirt. Bias tape finished edges.
Pattern Sizing:
BB (8-10-12-14) - I cut a 14 but probably should have cut a 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Well, it never does with these vintage sketches does it? Haha, but I think mine is pretty close and I am happy with it.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy, it's such a simple pattern
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the speed at which is comes together and it's fun to finish the raw edges with bias, plus no zippers or tricky buttons if you aren't in the mood.
Fabric Used:
Japanese style printed Cotton Sateen for the main dress, basic plain cotton for the bias which I made from scratch.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I had no fitting issues despite all the horror stories I've read, I guess I must have a 1950s "historically correct" figure, hehe! ;) But I should have tightened up the waist a bit, but it is an easy fix I can do when I feel like it.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I recommend it for a quick and fun project, even if you wanted to make a muslin first to test the fit. I might make another, it is a comfy dress but fairly distinct, would be my go to for a new 1950s dress for the right occasion.
Conclusion:
I love this dress, I probably just got lucky with the fit but it's comfortable and fun and everyone seemed to love it on me. My first foray into proper vintage dress-up and I had a lot of fun.
