| Pattern Description: Midriff dress with dropped shoulders and three-gore slim skirt or four-gore gathered skirt. Bodice and slim skirt softly pleated in midriff and waistline seams at side front. Slim skirt has darts and low pleat at back. Midriff is lined. Center back zipper closing
Pattern Sizing: Size 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instruction were very easy, as the dress doesn't have that many pieces to put together.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really like sewing vintage patterns even though they can at first be intimidating. The resulting dress is stylish and still feels modern. I had to alter the bodice quite a bit, as it was too long and full for my frame. After the pattern was adjusted it was very easy to put together and the instructions were helpful and it even provided a diagram to aid in adding/subtracting width or length from bodice and skirt!
Fabric Used:Black wool suiting, red Bemberg lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: As I mentioned above, I did some alterations on the bodice pattern to fit. The skirt I ended up taking of some crazy amount, 7.5" total off the length. If you are interested in the actual alterations you can read about it here. But be forewarned, it is long and I am not sure if I did the adjustments the correct way, but it worked for me. Since I was using wool, I went and fully lined the dress, which made the whole process a bit longer than normal. I also used an invisible zipper instead of a lapped.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? If you can find a copy, I think it is a great pattern. And maybe it will fit you right out of the envelope! Now that I have the pattern where it works for me, I am planning on making another one, this time with the fuller skirt. And if I don't line it, it will be much quicker
Conclusion: Aside for the pattern adjustments, this really was fun to sew. I love the look and loved how it turned out. If you want more pictures and more details check out my blog post! |

I love how the vintage patterns are classic and still very relevent. Your completed dress is stunning and I love the red lining!

Thanks so much, everyone! It really is such a classic style. I am *so* glad that I kept going and didn't throw in the towel when I tried on the first muslin :)

Great job, I checked your blog & you worked hard at getting fit through muslins! A good way to learn, & although muslins are time consuming, in the end they're worth the super look you get afterwards! Keep it up.
