Pattern Sizing: I made a 16 and my measurements have me at a 16. I could have gone one size down I think.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Basically yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes but I didn't like how the pockets are done so I changed it and like it better on this skirt.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The way the pockets are done, they tend to stick out a little away from the body. When you are trying to achieve an aline form, I think this detracts from the overall shape. As usual I never find the allocated pockets deep enough either as I like to be able to almost fully extend my arm when they are in my pockets. I use my pockets for my phone and keys so they need to be deep and not flare out.
Fabric Used: A cotton blend that I picked up from an op shop. I really wanted to try out a Chevron effect which I really couldn't get my head around.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: For a start, to get the chevron effect, I had the cut the front piece in half. This was easy-done - just don't cut it on the fold - BUT remember to add seam allowance otherwise it will come up too small. But it was setting the fabric up so that I would chevron correctly that was the mind-blowing bit. I used this tutorial to help me get my mind around it.
Once I got that part, the next was to achieve a flat pocket. I needed to line the dress too so I decided to make my lining match the front piece (in one large piece that I cut on the fold and then my pocket piece could be cut which I did much deeper. Then I simply sewed that piece to the front pieces so that the stitching can be seen from the outside. I double stitched for a RTW look. My photos are a little blurry but I think you can see what I did here
I like this pocket method way better and the pockets lay nice and flat as they should.
I managed to get all the chevrons matching up all the way around the skirt which I think is important. Having said that, it's not a particularly nice skirt so I only wear it around the house or for shopping. I've lost a little weight since I made it so I think I could have gone down a size but this just means it doesn't sit as high on my waist any longer. That's ok.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This is a good go-to skirt and I will sew it again if I need to.
I love your skirt! Thanks so much for sharing how you did the chevron look and your pockets.
