Pattern Description:
Misses' dress with sleeveless or cap-sleeved bodice and slim or flared and pleated skirt. New Look sewing pattern.
Pattern Sizing:
8-18
Made an 8 (but it was noooo 8)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Theoretically.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Easy to follow, just awkward to construct.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Well, truth be known, I didn't buy the patter for the view I made. I made View D because I happened upon some denim and some chiffon that I thought would be an interesting match.
The fit is the worst. I'm typically a perfect 8 with just a little adjustment in the shoulders (petite). After my adjustments, OMG the dress was huge ... IN THE SHOULDERS and in the waist. Felt 2-3 sizes too big.
Another reviewer mentioned the fit issues, but I thought ... 'ahn, I"ll be fine.' Wrong.
I put so much effort to actually make this dress look nice on the inside: flat feld seams, topstitching, understitching, invisible zipper, underlining ...
Well, I took ALL that out and readjusted and readjusted again. Now the dress just looks ... 'not pretty, with a slight fit issue' rather than not pretty and a total mess with fit.
Fabric Used:
Denim for top, chiffon with crepe lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
You mean ... for example, my effort to re-SIZE the darn thing? ... No, nothing other than trying to make it FIT.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Hard to say; I wanted to make VIEW C with the topstitching, and have fabric for it. But if sizing is going to be so much work, I can't imagine wasting my time on it.
I'm so disappointed with the look: Dress Sleeve Adjustment
I'm hoping the sleeve pleat will pull in from the back and serve TWO issues, gaping back and huge sleeve.
Conclusion:
I rarely buy New Look Patterns and now I wonder if there's a reason why. I'm totally disappointed in the fit and the end result. When I muster up the courage to take a picture of it, I'll update my post, but for now, it's been a big waste of my precious time. |
