| Pattern Description:
My dress is based on the pattern for the 'Elegant Escape Dress'by Savage Coco. However, I changed it to follow the lines of an inspiration dress by Roksanda Ilincic. Pattern Sizing:
One size to fit 36" bust. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Basically yes, but I changed it a lot. Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, very clear. However, I didn't use them because I changed the dress so much from the original. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the simple lines of this dress and the underarm and shoulder gussets, which I kept in my altered version. In my version, I like the cool, retro style of the design lines and contrasting fabrics. Fabric Used:
Polyester mechanical stretch. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I worked within the basic outline of the original pattern and redrafted curved sections inside this to be made from contrasting fabrics to resemble my inspiration dress. I took great care with the sections and seam allowances so that they would fit perfectly together. I left off the pockets and back zip. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I can't imagine making this particular 'Roksanda Ilincic' version of the dress again (it is so unusual a girl would only need one) but I love the original 'Elegant Escape Dress' and will probably make another one at some stage. Conclusion:
It took a lot of time and careful drafting and sewing, but I am thrilled with my new dress and how close it is to the inspiration dress. I love the curved design lines and the simple overall shape of the dress. It is striking, but comfortable and easy to wear.
There are many more pictures of the finished dress and he design process on my blog. |

Ha ha - thank you! I was a bit worried what you'd think as I hacked up your pattern. Hopefully I'll get at least one vote apart from my own now!!

OMG!!! I can't tell the difference. What a knock off. WOW. Simple elegant and that orange, I keep saying to myself how can I get that in my wardrobe. Actually the orange and lime green. (I'm always years behind fashion trends). I'm just starting to like colored jeans that the Presidents wife made famous a few years back. Silly me. BUT WOW love it. Can you make a clone for me? I'll send you my measurements ha ha?
