This is a Kimono Dress from Heather Ross' book, Weekend Sewing.
I traced off the smallest size from the book, and on the advice of the Flickr pool, I took it in quite a bit on the flat pattern. Once I got to the fitting stage, I had to take it in some more. It runs really large.
The instructions were very easy to follow, and came with cute illustrations showing each step. I had no trouble with the assembly portion.
The fabric used is a chartreuse cotton/lycra knit from Girl Charlee.
I liked the finished style of the dress, but disliked how large it ended up being. I have some gaping in the front and also had some along the back neckline.
I probably won't sew it again, and if you're petite I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to make a lot of pattern adjustments.
Blogged here with more photos and info about the Obi Sash, which is meant to be worn with this dress.

I would love to see a picture of the dress with the sash. I'm sure it is lovely even though you don't like it. I think it looks very nice and comfy. Love the fun color!
