| Pattern Description: Knock off of this $2,790 Valentino: We are fervent for fuchsia this season and Valentino makes the feminine hue even more ladylike with this lace-paneled dress. With a fit-and-flare design, this stretch-knit piece will flatter your figure.
I used my much-altered TNT tee shirt pattern and the skirt from Burda 7828.
Pattern Sizing: Self drafted in MY size
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes even the same color!
Were the instructions easy to follow? It’s a very simple 5-pattern-pieces dress so no instructions needed
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The fabric is a knit but the lace dresses it up beyond just a tee-shirt dress. It could work for both work and dinner at a posh restaurant after work. And it is SOOOOO comfortable!
Fabric Used: Beautiful cotton-(I think) blend knit for the dress that was rather spendy but worth it; non-stretch (polyester) lace; and a very light something that is a weight and fabric like opaque pantyhose – perfect for backing the lace panels
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? If I were to sew it again it would definitely be without the lace. My recommendation to others: It’s a LOT of lace (almost 10 yds.)!!!!
Conclusion: Although this is a relatively simple design, the work was very labor-intensive. And the placement of the lace panels was crucial; I measured, fitted, re-measured, re-fitted everything more than once. measuring & re-measuring I also BASTED everything. I have become a basting addict, especially when working with knits – there is nothing worse than trying to rip out small zig-zag stitches in a knit, and basting eliminates that.
The original dress was $2,790 and I have about $27.90 in materials, zero for the pattern, so that makes my labor about $68/hr. Worth every penny. Big shout out to Deb's Lace and Trims - this is the first time I have bought from them but they had the EXACT right shade of lace in the EXACT right width and length for an unbelievable price. AND they shipped really quickly after I ordered at the last minute. Two thumbs up, NAIAW, etc. http://debslaceandtrims.com
