Pattern Description:
I used two patterns a top and a skirt to make a dress.
The dress is fully lined.
I used Vogue V8815 for the Peplum Top part of the dress. I reshaped the neck and armhole area to make it look more like the models although looking at it now I think I could have shaved off a few more centimeters. I also added pleats to the peplum just like the models. I had to cut the bodice on the cross grain to get the scalloped edge on the peplum. Because of this the bodice is too stretchy lengthwise and doesn't fit as snug as I had intended. There is really no other way of getting the scalloped edge though.
I used a skirt pattern from Burdastyle Mag 7/2012 skirt 120 to attach to the peplum top.
I have to say, I love this pattern. The skirt is high waisted which was perfect to attach to the high waist line of the peplum top. The skirt has two curved darts on the waistline starting from the side seam which gives a really nice shape. I will definitely make this skirt again.
Pattern Sizing:
8-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Sort of, I altered the neckline and armholes on both front and back and added an exposed zipper on the back.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, I did refer to the instructions occasionally and they were easy to follow. I did attach a skirt and fully lined it so had to figure this out by myself. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like how easy both patterns are. I love the shape of the highwaisted skirt.
Fabric Used:
I used an acrylic (i think) some sort of man made fibre crochet look fabric for the outer and black medium weight satin for lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I altered the to around the neckline and armhole.I also added two pleats to the front of the peplum. I added an exposed zip to the back.
I shortened the skirt significantly.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Definitely sew both again. Really looking forward to sewing them as seperates.
Conclusion:
Easy patterns individually although adding the skirt, the pleats, lining , exposed zipper and dealing with scalloped edging added some more difficulty.
