Pattern Description: Sheath dresses with darts or pleats for shaping. Sleeve and collar variations.
Pattern Sizing: 4-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't even glance at them.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Like: The pleats are a fun variation on the classic sheath dress. The collar is also really fun and has a vintage inspired vibe. Dislikes: I based the size I cut on the finished measurements printed on the tissue, and it was WAY off. I ended up taking in the side seams at least two sizes worth, particularly in the hip area.
Fabric Used: Poly stretch moleskin from FabricMart. In the end, I think it was a bit stiff for this design, as the pleats over the belly pouf out a bit more than is flattering. A bit more drape here would have been better.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I cut several sizes based on the finished pattern measurements on the tissue. I basted the side seams for fit, and ended up taking out a significant amount more width - close to two sizes worth. I slimmed and lengthened the sleeve to make it bracelet length. I took in the back neckline about an inch, as New Look patterns always gape in the back neckline on me. I raised the neckline 1/2 inch by sewing on the facings with a 3/8 seam allowance. This way the neckline isn't too wide for a typical bra.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? It's a nice basic style, but I'm not sure I'll sew it again. There are just too many dress patterns out there that I want to try. I do recommend it.
Conclusion: Cute basic with some fun vintage details. Be sure that your fabric isn't too stiff if you are making the pleated version.
