I made this dress for my friend Angela (also featured in the pictures). She has striking blue eyes which are highlighted by the blue of the dress.
Pattern Description:
Lined dress has fitted bodice variations, midriff, tapered or flared skirt and back zipper. C and E: side front and side back seams, and side pockets. A, B, D and F: semi-fitted skirt and back slit. D, E and F: bias front bodice with fold-back facing.
Pattern Sizing:
Size 14 - The size was quite large, so I took the dress in quite a bit along the side seams around the waist and hips.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. I made View B with half sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the a-symmetrical front detail. For me that's really the selling point of this dress.
Fabric Used:
I used a teal-blue ponte knit. So, there was no need to line the dress. I loved working with this fabric. After I had done a fitting on Angela and made all the necessary adjustments, I serged all the seams. Then I simply top stitched along the neck line, sleeves and hem. I wanted the dress to be really form fitting (without being tight). The fabric was excellent for this purpose.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn't line the dress since I was working with a ponte knit. I shortened the sleeves to half sleeves. I tapered in the straight skirt for a more form-hugging look. I also shorted the bodice back slightly by about an inch.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I'd like to make one for myself. I already have a stretch woven print fabric that I have selected.
I would definitely recommend this pattern.
