| Pattern Description:
Misses' "one-hour" dress in two lengths
Pattern Sizing:
6-10
Mine is a 6.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not so much.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
This is indeed a very easy dress and so I didn't really read the instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I was attracted to the envelope drawings because they closely resemble a favorite rtw linen dress I already own. As drafted, it is simple and quick, so that's certainly something to like. I defininitely did not love the initial shapeless result.
Fabric Used:
This is a poly-cotton lacy knit from fabric.com. I bought 2.5 yards and it shrunk like crazy. I originally had plenty to do this dress for me and a simple t-shirt style dress for dd. Now, dd may be getting a little top.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I sewed this up in a 6 but did taper out to 3/8" SAs at the hip. I usually sew an 8 -10-10. I have never had to alter darts, but I had to raise these points by 3/4". I used a french curve to redraw the seam lines at the waist - Upon first fitting, it looked more like a pretty pink potato sack than a dress. Taking over an inch out of the waist helped significantly. I thought a little D-ring self-belt would finish it off, but wasn't pleased with the "gathered" effect that resulted around the waist. I lightly basted 2 front and 2 back darts but the added structure didn't suit the feel of the dress. So, darts removed, I again reshaped the waist, taking out an additional 1/4"; 5" removed from the waist in all, but with a very satisfactory result.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Weeks ago, I bought a beautiful challis with this pattern in mind. Now, I think I'll reserve the challis for something else as this pattern is just too simplified for me.
Conclusion:
After all my tweaking and playing, I'm happy with my bright spring dress, but I think the pattern is destined to collect dust from now on.
