| Pattern Description:
A dress with front and back pleats and a twisted, draped neckline. Pattern Sizing:
One size. I am size UK/Aus 10 and 5'9 to give an idea of fitting. There is lots of room in this dress, but it's a bit short on me. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were in Japanese so no help to me. There were some diagrams but these weren't as clear as others in the book. This is a complicated pattern and it took me quite a while to work out how it went together. I ended up making a mini version in paper to help me work it out! What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The neckline is very clever and the whole pattern fits together very well, although I'd never have believed this as I was sewing it! This took a lot of time and was a difficult process. I didn't know where I was, nor where I was going, through most of it. It just seemed like a big mess that was never going to work out, but it eventually came together much better than I was expecting. Fabric Used:
One-way stretch cotton jersey. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I omitted the lining. The pattern includes armhole facings which I used. I can't see how these would be necessary if the lining was used. I finished the lower edge of the dress with a rolled hem. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm not sure I'll make this again, but you never know! Conclusion:
This is a comfortable and unique style. I like how the numerous pleats give a fullness to the dress, but it skims the body and is not pouffy. The pattern had a lot of steps that were rather confusing without being able to read the instructions. Still, it's worth taking one little step at a time and making it happen!
I have gone into more detail of the whole process of making this dress in this blog post. It might be worth reading if you are considering making one yourself. There are also lots of pictures. |

I think you've done really well with this one. I agree it will work better as a tunic. A nice thing about many Japanese patterns is that they can be layered, say with a long-sleeve top to work in cooler weather.

Very cool design! I've got the English version of this book of my wishlist when it comes out later this year, so it's great to see yours made up already!
