Pattern Description: Racerback sports bra and a spaghetti strap sports bra.
Pattern Sizing:2-22, girls to women in this pattern. I made a size U.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Close, but that's because I altered the pattern to make the bra a top.
Were the instructions easy to follow? This is the second and third time I used this pattern. The instructions are wonderful and easy to follow. The illustrations are terrific.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It's a great basic that can be made over and over with a few changes to make it into a top!
Fabric Used: Supplex (nylon and spandex blend), polyester spandex knit. All from Fabric Mart. The zebra fabric and the pink fabric are is polyester/spandex. The red is supplex. I lined both with supplex (the zebra top has a mint green supplex bra lining). You can see more photo details on my blog.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I went down two sizes from the recommendations the Jalie pattern has-- this allowed for serious compression!
I turned the racerback bra into a top. In the summer I am ridiculously hot when I run. I've been wanting a running top with a built in bra... a serious compression bra that does its job (I've never found that in a RTW sports tops yet.) I used a tank top I normally wear to trace off a pattern. I sewed on this fabric bit after I attached the elastic under the bust, but right before folding the elastic up. I then folded the elastic up and used a twin needle to finish it off. I could have easily made an entirely new tank to sew OVER the bra (much like RTW running tops I usually see) but I wanted the least amount of layers of material as possible for the nasty summer heat I will be contending with in a couple months.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will sew this again! I want to try the spaghetti strap bra but I feel like it make not be as supportive, perhaps make it for a lighter activity like yoga.
Conclusion: I am so happy to have a pattern to make running tops with serious compression in the bra. See lots more on my blog!

Kathhhhhy said... Marymary86... That's a good question! Jalie has a fantastic array of sizes (one of the reasons I was sold on them). I am not particularly large busted but I need a lot of support to stop the annoying bouncing as I run. I went down two sizes, possibly could go down one more but I think that might be uncomfortable. I think someone with a fuller bust needs to sew this up and share their experience. There are too few activewear reviews for various body shapes. 3/7/13 9:07 AM
