Pattern Description: Marseilles Shirt: Pull over shirt with slightly dropped shoulders, easy slim fit. View A has a collar and half sleeves. View B long sleeves with bias tie. Pattern dated 1998
Pattern Sizing: XXS to XXL I made View B size XXS
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? YES
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the casual look of the tie front. View B is cute View A not so attractive with droopy shoulders and shoulder pads!
I did not care for the method of turning the neck edge under and stitching. and making ties then attaching to the sides of each upper edge.
Pattern has bias around the front opening and ties only. The slit could be longer.
Fabric Used: Bali Rayon from Janie's Sewing Center (a local specialty fabric shop) The Black print was from Fashion Fabric Club (that was my muslin)
Pattern calls for a soft draping fabric such as Rayon Crepe, fabric should also look the same on both sides.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made Bias for the neck opening, sewing it from the wrong side and bringing to the front extending it into the ties, topstitching it down.
I made the slit longer but still not long enough.
I also fine tuned the shoulder to fit my shoulder, not slightly drooping as the the pattern intended. All seams except the setting in the sleeve seams are french seams.
Would you sew it again? Yes very comfortable top to wear. Would you recommend it to others? Yes and No This not not for a beginner sewer, working with narrow bias strips 1 inch is fussy. I think there may be other tops similar to this like Jalie that would be better with updated sewing methods.
Conclusion: The black print was my muslin but it turned out nice enough to wear. Black Print
