Pattern Sizing:
I cut a size 18, flaring out to a size 20 over the hips.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I made a combination of the tunic and dress, using the long sleeves and simple neckline. It did look like the drawings.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, they were straightforward. I also followed recommendations from Claire Shaeffer's Fabric Sewing Guide for sewing soft sheers, and rayon.
Sadly, I did not follow her instructions for cutting sheer fabric singly instead of on the fold. The center pieces cut on the fold needed fixing up, as they slid and were not on-grain. After that one mistake, I read the book & followed the rest of the instructions.
Per Claire's instructions, I used stay tape for the neck instead of just stay stitching. It worked great, this fabric is very stretchy, and the neck did not stretch out of shape at all. I did not use a facing because it was so sheer, I made a self-bias binding instead. It came out nicely.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It is quite loose, not as form fitting as I would like. I think the fabric works well with this pattern, because it has a good drape.
Fabric Used:
I used a pebble rayon crepe. It is heavy, but sheer. I also made a camisole top of stretch satin to go underneath it so that I can wear it to work.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would probably not sew it again, because I think it's too loose for a woman of my size/build. I don't usually wear tunics for this reason, but I think the princess seams make it more flattering than most tunics. |
