Pattern Description:
MISSES’/MISSES’ PETITE DRESS: Dress: close-fitting bodice and slightly flared skirt has bodice variations, back zipper and is below mid-knee length.
Pattern Sizing: I made the size 10 for my daughter who wears a 4-6 in ready made dresses.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not so much since I made some changes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were great. I really liked the technique for lining the bodice.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I chose this pattern because I was looking for something with simple lines and cap sleeves to accommodate an embellished rosette fabric that I wanted to try. My daughter saw a similar embellished dress at Anthropologie and I was trying to make something along those lines.
Fabric Used: Ribbon embellished mesh fabric from Joann's.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I shortened the skirt by 2 inches since the pattern included a below knee length skirt. I wanted a skirt that hit just above the knee and due to the fabric, I needed to use a rolled hem. I also used the cap sleeves that are shown with the V neck with the boat neck style. I added a petticoat to the skirt to provide some fullness at the bottom. I liked the design of the skirt because there were no gathers or pleats which I thought would be bulky with the fabric. I also took care in how I placed the pattern pieces so the zipper area would not include any embellishments. There was a wide selvage that was good for this purpose. Embellishments would likely make it difficult to operate the zipper.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I definitely will use this pattern again. I think the strapless version would be fun for summer.
Conclusion: I really like this pattern. It went together well and offered opportunities for variations. I like the way the skirt hangs so that it looks full but is actually close to the body in the waist and hips. This fabric was a challenge for me but I am pleased with the results.
