Pattern Description:
A casual dress based off of vintage styles of the 1930s-50s. It is from Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing.
Pattern Sizing:
Gertie has her own sizing from 6-16. I made this dress a 14 with some body adjustments.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very. The only hang up I had was with the pocket placement. But I just put them where I thought they should belong and it turned out great.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved how easily the instructions were to follow. I really liked the bound button holes and how much I learned in sewing this dress.
Fabric Used:
I used cotton duck which is not a fabric I would ususally use for a dress. But it really worked well. It gave a lot of body to the dress and it will wear very nicely.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
After reading reviews about the shirring causing "aggressive pulling" I decided to space out the shirring a little more than the pattern called for. I also was very careful to hold my fabric taught as I sewed each row.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes. I made this dress for a friend and now I want one for me!
Conclusion:
The instructions are clear and this is a cute casual dress. For more info, see my blog @ Without Directions
