Pattern Description:
Close-fitting, pullover tops have gathered front and narrow hem.
Pattern Sizing:
6-22. I cut a 12 in view D.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yup.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, they were.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the neckline, and how it's a V neck that doesn't come too low. It also doesn't gap at all, which is spectacular. I also like the length of the top: spot on for my taste!
While it was quick and pretty easy, I didn't really enjoy sewing this top, and I don't know why. This lack of enjoyment seeped into my feelings about the finished product as well...
Fabric Used:
Cotton interlock...I think? I feel like I can accurately identify very few knits. LOL. I can tell you what a jersey and a rib look like...
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I started out adding a 1" FBA, but the adjustment lines on the pattern made the waist 1" bigger, too. Not what anyone with a full bust needs...talk about frump city! I also think the FBA adjustment instructions are a little faulty on this pattern. They may work mostly, but there only have you adjust the half of the pattern that includes the shoulder seam, and not the other side. For things to really lay correctly, you would need to adjust BOTH sides of any wrap top.
After adjusting both sides and making a horrendously awful muslin, I went back to my ol' standby and just cut a straight 12 in this puppy, and it worked. From the side view of the top, you can see that I technically still do need some sort of FBA, but it's a knit, and they're forgiving, so I think it's fine as is. Better to have some semblance of incorrect fit than a sack.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Maybe...in a stretchier knit. I think this design really works best on someone with a smaller bust...the wrap just didn't hit me in a place that was very flattering. I would lower the top of where the faux wrap is sewn into the side seam about an inch if I were to try again.
Conclusion:
I chose "Pattern OK, but did NOT work for Me" but just because it was closest to my feelings about this top. I think it worked just fine as a pattern in general, but I am not really liking it that well on me. |
Great top, and I think it looks great on you! To be honest, I haven't made this yet, worried that the "boobage" would look weird in this because it's a higher wrap...I think your top with your adjustments are great! And you rock for even making a muslin because I would have skipped this immediately and probably should have done one.

Thank you! Yeah, I really do think this top is better for the ladies who have smaller/higher busts. It works alright for folks like you and me, but the look isn't optimal.

Very pretty! I do like the higher wrap, just because it's a little different.

I think it looks really nice on you. It's very odd that for a FBA they only have you adjust one side...I mean there are 2 sides to every bust! ;)

I like it on you. Very cute and fits you well.

I disagree with you as "not working for me"...I think it's a nice fit on you. The neckline is very modest and this might suit some occasions but lowering it a tad would also look great. Of all the surplice top patterns I have (and haven't sewn yet), this one looks about the nicest. I DO like how it looks on you. :)
