Hi Kitte Cat. Too bad your collar came out crooked. Please don’t tell yourself you are bad at collars, you just need more practice and a few tips. Collar pattern pieces need to be laid out carefully. If you draw the seam line onto the pattern it will help guide you in placing the pattern onto the fabric before cutting. With your particular fabric, you can plan where the pink flowers will be when finished. After cutting, if you baste or mark a line just inside the seam line all the way around the collar pieces it will serve as a guide during assembly. If you use a disappearing marker or chalk you can draw on the seam line. Later, if the flower looks a bit crooked, you can move the seam line a bit before sewing. In our fast-paced world basting often falls by the wayside. Taking the time to baste or mark something you don’t feel confident about will always pay off in the end. It really doesn’t take that much time. Feelings of fear, or thinking we are bad at something are very self-limiting. Instead, pat yourself on the back for trying and for figuring a way out of the error last time. ………………..how to make paragraphs???……………… The following tutorial is by a professional woman whose website is geared towards tailored items. Her tutorials are excellent and many are applicable to everyday wear. Her Tale and Tutorial of Three Collars is great for anyone serious about making nice collars - the type that don’t rely on an iron to look nice. I do mine way and similarly. It doesn’t take any more time. For mid to light weight fabric I make seam adjustments rather than pattern changes and use sew-in interfacing underneath the top collar piece. Put on the kettle, make a pot of tea and see what you think. http://www.fashion-incubator.com/archive/a-tale-and-tutorial-of-three-collars/
