Renren -- I am sewing 1/2 inch down vertically at the center front and back and side seams through the elastic to keep it from rolling and the gathers from shifting. I don't start at the top of the casing, I come down about 1/8 inch or so from the bottom and top of the elastic.

Very cute! I love the pleated hem. I really need to learn to use my ruffle.

What a cool skirt. I love the idea of this kind of "ad libbing" and changing it up in some very basic ways that makes it so interesting and different. Nice intro to sewing for friend's dgd. When you say you sew 1/2 " down, does that mean you are sewing right down the middle of the elastic all the way around the skirt OR are you sewing a vertical 1/2" seam at 4 places around the skirt? This seems like it would mean the line ends midway in the 3/4 inch elastic? Just trying to visualize this . . . thanks.
