Pattern Description: Misses dress and jacket
Pattern Sizing: H5 (6-14)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I bought this pattern because of the triangular inset on the front bodice. It is a unique detail and I had a great fabric to work with, making the bodice front, the rest of which is cut on the bias, very interesting. It is a simple shape, something I wanted for the digital print linen I wanted to use.
I don't really like the pleated skirt. It is not the most flattering skirt style on me, and I am thinking, despite having completed and lined the thing, that I may go back in and work it into a simpler A-line. The waist seam is a little bulky, likely a result of the linen (and pleats). And using the same pattern for the lining. I wish more patterns had separate lining pieces!
Fabric Used: Gorgeous digital print linen in shades of purple and blue from Downtown Fabrics, here in Toronto.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I really worked the bodice on this one. I had to add 5/8" to the centre back, shorten back by 1-1/2" and add 1" neck darts when the back neckline was gapetastic. Having done all that 6 weeks ago (I avoided doing the hem for awhile!), I now find that I have lost 10 pounds and the bodice is too big. I have become a hanger for this garment! I ended up taking in the side seams by 5/8" at the armhole to 1/4" just above the waist. I left the waist as it was, since my weight always comes off in the bust...
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will probably sew it again, as it is a fun dress with both a simple shape and the unique detail of the inset. I would definitely recommend it to others. It is a quick sew and, despite my fitting going awry since I started 6 weeks ago, it is actually not difficult to fit this dress. The inset is the same for all sizes, so any alterations are in the darts and seams, apart from lengthening/shortening.
Conclusion: Fun unique pattern that makes prints shine, particularly geometrics and stripes. Recommended!
